How To Apply

The Application Process:

If you are new to Row Abroad, you will need to fill in the application & pay a $500 deposit, of that deposit all of but $50 is refundable if you are not accepted.  While you are being evaluated for the program we will hold a space for you in the program.  It is important to understand that we are interested in taking engaged rowers and students.  We are not worried about the level of your rowing ability, as long as the athletes have a desire to get better and are engaged in rowing.  Due to the nature of the trip, the athletes need to be independent and motivated to be engaged in the activities we provide through the program.

Before we can make a final admissions decision, an application must be complete. In addition to the Application Form and the application Fee, we will need to receive an evaluation  from your language teacher (which we will e-mail to them) and speak with your rowing coach.

  • A statement explaining why you would like to join Row Abroad and what you feel you can contribute to it. Your application cannot be processed without this statement. Approximately 150–300 words is sufficient.

These documents are available as part of our Online Application.  We review a completed application within a few days, and notify families of our admissions decision by e-mail as quickly as we can interview the coaches and hear back from the teachers.

Eligibility:

Students completing 8th through 11th grade are eligible to participate Row Abroad Programs

Group Composition:

The Row Abroad programs are generally limited to 30 participants and will have a minimum of 3 leaders.  The dynamics of our program and the unique experiences shared stimulate close, lasting friendships and a strong community spirit within each group.

Application Process and Terms of Payment:

We will receive more applications than we are able to accept, early applicants have the best chance of being accepted into the program. Applications are carefully reviewed by our Admissions Committee and students are selected on the basis of their maturity, enthusiasm, motivation, and willingness to live and participate constructively in the Row Abroad program.

Row Abroad will temporarily reserve space for an applicant upon receipt of the Online Application Form and the application fee of $50.  An applicant’s file is not complete and cannot be considered for admission until we have received a completed teacher reference form and have spoken to your rowing coach.  We make our best effort to act on each application within one to two days of the date when the application is complete.

Applicants are responsible for following up with their language teacher to ensure that they have sent in a completed reference form. The most common reason for a delay in processing an application is that we have not received the required references.  If a student is not accepted into the program all but $50 of the deposit amount will be returned.

An application must be completed within a reasonable time by submitting the additional required items or the application will be considered withdrawn and the applicant’s temporarily held space will be released.

Final payment of the full tuition will be on May 15th.  No refund will be made after May 15th .

Applications Received After May 15:

Applications after May 15th are handled on an expedited basis initiated by completing the online Application Form, providing online credit card payment.  Once a student has been accepted, then Row Abroad must receive the full payment of the program tuition within five days of the date, or the application will be considered withdrawn. Expectations:

We expect Row Abroad participants to maintain high standards of personal behavior. Since they are encouraged, within the context of our programs, to take leadership roles and to make some of their own discoveries, students whose parents require them to be under constant surveillance or who are likely to act irresponsibly, use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, or behave in a disruptive manner, should not apply. Students who violate our few rules are subject to dismissal at our sole discretion. Parents are responsible for making arrangements for, bearing the cost of, and providing supervision for dismissed students’ immediate travel home, even in situations that require extended international travel, and no refund of the program tuition is given.

At Row Abroad we take pride in our reputation for careful, thorough planning and attention to detail. The descriptions of our programs are based on our experiences in previous summers and our plans for this summer. It is inevitable that some things described here will not happen exactly as presented. To get the most out of the experience, participants need to be flexible in responding to unforeseen situations, and creative in taking advantage of unexpected opportunities. We expect Row Abroad participants to share responsibility for the success of their experience.
